Well, I didn't say as I haven't seen it...

...and after my fannying about on here last night it got too late to bother to start a film stream, but I did see the trailers ages ago and knew I'd love it, just never got round to catching it over the years since. I might get round to it tonight, but with the number of tabs I have open and how tired I feel after the last of my half marathon training this afternoon, I'm not holding out much hope...

I liked High Rise (haven't read the book though would like to), though I understand the points it's critics make and probably like it for it's style over it's substance. Plus it has my old favourite band, Portishead, coming out of the woodwork to record an ABBA cover especially for it (S.O.S., released the same year as the book). I linked to the video they did for it not too long back as a late addition to a Wrath playlist I believe Dandy was creating and I remember him giving it the nod that next morning. Unless he didn't and it was someone else. I could check... I WILL check, I'm not lazy (I bloody AM)...

Back to Ben Wheatley:

Kill List is on tonight and that's PROPER dark. Plus it stars two of my favourite Brit actors: Michael 'Tyres' Smiley & Neil 'Football Factory' Maskell.

I haven't seen any of his work as cinematic releases, though Film 4 did air A Field in England on telly as the same time as in cinemas and I loved it.

I've not seen Down Terrace or last year's Free Fire; I saw the trailer for the latter when in the cinema for T2: Trainspotting and the subsequent tv spots and I have my doubts about that one. Just seems a bit forced banter-wise. Might still be an entertaining romp though, but I think he does dark better than comedy, though I appreciate Sightseers IS a black comedy. I'd also be interested to catch the horror anthology, The ABCs of Death, for which he did a segment.
