Talking of peruvian mountaineering, I went to a talk in Peru by some mountaineer bloke about how the Incas (and others) scaled all these high peaks in the Andes to make offerings and that (sometimes lugging up drugged children to sacrifice), all without modern equipment obviously. That was proper interesting. This bloke said he could still scarcely believe how they managed it considering how hard it is even now
