I can't add much except to stress the pickpockets, they really are quite good.

Other than that Old Man has it covered.
My main advice would be to wander and enjoy it, there is a lot to see, so depending on y our time there decide what matters and stick to it.
Don't try and cram too much in and allow some time to discover stuff.

The Metro was really useful when we went, cheap and reliable.
