I think one of the reasons the board were so reluctant to sack AN was the cost

Not just his payout, but all the other staff, who will have to be moved on when the new guy comes in and wants his own team with him.

My guess is that the new structure is partly designed to cope better with a change in manager/coach.

Of course, it means that any candidate must be willing to work like that (e.g. with a DoF), but not everybody is, are they?
