once they are already independent the Basque/Catalan issue diminishes.

They will already meet most if not all accession criteria. There isn't really any reason for the EU to not let them in (vis a vis everyone else they have been courting to join).

It's what Scotland can bring to the party vs the inevitable EU aid they will require, but there is a far more compelling argument to have Scotland in than the likes of Kosovo, and they will be stronger members than the likes of Malta and Cyprus.

Especially when financial institutions in London start to remember their Scottish roots and decamp north of the border...
