Is anyone suggesting it will help our position relative to other clubs?

Increasing seating capacity won't do that either. Since it will have negligible impact on income (doubt crowds will increase unless ticket prices are slashed which cancels out the benefit) but it will saddle us with loads of debt from the building costs (like the cost of the South Stand rebuilding did ). So it will probably make us worse off in playing budget terms.
