The thing that struck me was that the only thing that really matters is results on the pitch.

It even did for mcnally in the end.

When it comes down to it, we could make a great CEO appointment and the team does badly for some reason out of their control, the board are still going to get hammered.

Equally we could make a poor appointment and do well and everyone would be fine with that.

The two are linked to a degree of course, but there's a huge amount of luck involved in any successful managerial appointment, same goes for buying players. Mulumbu is a good example, it doesn't feel like much would have had to have been different for him to have been a key player last season.
