We've been together for five years but lived in different countries for the last 18 months

She's Dutch and lives in Brussels, while I'm in the UK (and British). The plan was that she would come to London later this year when her current contract ends but now the A50 trigger looks like it'll be the cut-off point after which the UK won't give the right to remain to any EU citizen arriving here, she won't have permanent right to remain. As this will likely be reciprocated by other EU governments, we're in the position in which we won't both have the permanent right to remain in either of our home countries. Even if we get married (which neither of us particularly want to do), although I currently meet the salary requirements for non-EU family reunification, I'm on an FTC so who know what I'll be doing when we actually leave. The fact that you're already seeing these horror stories about spouses of 30 years being deported because their partner has lost their income due to debilitating illness feel like a sign of what the future holds.

As I say, a crock of s**te.
