They don't actually "think" it's a bedroom they instinctively know it's an above ground refuge where it will be safer to have a kip. I have studied this behavour over the years with an actual live cat as the subject. If they sleep on the ground they get under cover like under the settee for example, other types of cat cover are available. 🤓
