How big is the boat you'll be on? For how long? For what purpose? What facilities does it have? Will you permantly be at sea for the duration or will you have stops and a chance to explore places.....? All have a bearing on 'pros' and 'cons'.
'I am Hoots' off of here and I were stuck on an 80 footer livaboard in the red sea for 2 weeks with just a weekemd on shore during the Icelamdic ash cloud. We had minimal spare clothes as it was a diving holiday.... so for us it was a bonus extra week! But then again we had a great crowd who were all divers so we had a blast (Norwich won promotion from league 1 the weekend we were on shore so we got hammered in Hurghada!).
I've also been on a 2 week 'luxury' cruise around the med when i was a kid (went with sister and parents). I use the term 'luxury' loosely as it was the mid 80's where a rump steak and half bottle of blue nun were considered luxury! Bonus was we stopped at various ports (nice, corsica, tunisia etc etc) amd we had a day/evening to explore - plus the ship was large with pools, entertainment etc so for a 12 uear old was exciting.....
I would say its very easy to over pack, you basically need a set of smart clothes, out doory/rugged clothes, swim/leisure wear! Also today would be a different experiemce with wifi etc available on most large ships....
If you have the chance go for it - but then again i love boats and being on (or pref under) the water!
