Some fact and some interpretation

The problem in the reporting and inference is that you have extremes on both sides with Fox and CNN. Even quoting thee Grauniard is dangerous as their interpretation was always way left of centre.

As someone who has come through the immigration system with visas, green cards etc the whole process was immensely bureaucratic. You always felt you were treading on eggshells to keep the visa or green card intact when coming back into the country. The questioning by immigration was random in its intensity and politeness.

I am in favour of better screening but clearly a blanket ban is next to useless and is contrary to most civil liberties. The problem is when the terrorist are a subset of a religion how can you identify the radical militants from the peace loving members of that community. Its almost impossible without extensive intelligence and research.
