I once walked into a hotel abroad to book a room for a few nights. The quote at the reception was very high and they wouldn't do a lower price.

I noticed a holiday company rep in the reception area. I asked if she could get me a better deal. She got on the phone to her company, booked a room for me at a fraction of the price. I then turned to the hotel receptionist and told her I'd just saved a lot of money and would like to check-in.
