The only kit you need is decent trainers

Any old shorts and a t-shirt will do for a 10k. For a longer race you might want some proper tops but for a 10k it's optional - do it if it makes you feel good, it won't make you any faster.

One tip: bit of Vaseline on each nipple before running more than half an hour or so prevents chafing and bleeding of said nipples. You might also find your shorts rub a bit and again a bit of Vaseline over the bit that gets rubbed stops it bothering you.
