Once drove an E-type in the Mille Miglia with "Farter" Carter-Vickers

It was all going spiffingly till the Dolomites. We had a bit of a gearbox issue. Wop mechanics lost the plot and put it back upside down. Farter was changing down into second round a big hair pin when the whole shebang flew out, taking with it, right over the edge, 500 foot, wheeeeee.

Some Vogue journalist found him in 1973, living off buffalo mozzarella in a cave outside Turin.
