It's bollocks, don't believe everything you read in the Guardian

Regeneration doesn't threaten the club at all. In fact it contributes to upgrades to the stadium and improves transport links for fans.

The argument is solely about who gets to profit from the development. The company who has spent the last 15 years aquiring 96℅ of the land interests or the club owners (the club has a short lease on some of the land but the council owns the freehold).
