A club would show public support for a manager so they don't get charged with trying to force him to resign.
A club may sell players because they need money to give to a new manager. It also increases the pressure on the existing manager to resign, so the club doesn't have to pay him so much to leave. A club will sometimes cut staff to put pressure on a manager to go.
If results pick up a little or the manager the club wants to appoint isn't available, then a club will sometimes allow the manager some loan deals until the end of the season.
I am not at all suggesting NC would ever do that.
