Helps a bit though that they have played 12 of those 18 at home and the away tests were in

Sri Lanka and West Indies.

They are definitely the best team in the world when playing in India. Not so proven in other conditions and if you ask me the mark of a truly excellent test team is to be able to win in all conditions. At their prime in recent years Australia managed that as did England. India have not beaten any of the stronger test nations in an away series for quite a while though so it will be interesting to see how they do when they tour some of the other major test playing nations again.
