1984. All the surviving veterans of that assault were there. I went into the first gun battery there at 745 am and interrupted two men in their 60s having a chat and laughing. I was going to leave as I thought it was a little private reminiscence but they asked me to stay. It was the most moving and interesting chat I'd ever had with two "old" guys. One was a guy called Wally Parr ( Google him). These two were the first to fire a shot in the allied landings. They sent the code "Ham and Jam" to say theyd taken the bridge....Great day and look forward to the film
