Have followed the fallout from Waghorns' article with interest. Have to say that I think the main point that should be made is that he has let himself down this season with his continued refusal to be even vaguely critical of Worthy and articles finding excuses for our plight.
However so far as the stuff about rumours on here is concerned I think he has a valid point. I think it is also part of a general trend at the moment for us to be downright abusive or hostile to our own players. We seem to be turning into the type of ar****le fans that we previosuly thought watch their football at West Ham or Wolves.
I know for a fact that people at the club read this messageboard and I have also been told by certain players that some of the players read it to. Some even take laptops on the way to away games. It often crosses my mind how they must feel reading the sort of stuff that has been posted on here recently 9or inded as is wriiten in the pinkun letters every week). I've been as guilty as anyone of this but these latest episodes have made me think about things.
Now I know they are big lads and have to accept that a bit of stick goes with the job but it is not Andy Hughes fault that he is crap. I am crap at football but if Worthy paid me 3K a week and picked me to play then i can tell you now i would be out there. In short it is not Hughes's fault he gets picked just as it was not Holt's fault last season.
We all assume Hucks is here for life as he loves it but much of that has been based in the past on the bond between the fans and the players. If he comes on here and sees us slagging off all of his mates might he start to have a rethink?
Why should Etuhu run his heart out for a bunch of fans who booed him and sung "send him back" in about his second game and who have already declared him to be crap?
What will Earnshaw think if he makes his debut on Sunday and his teammates are getting abused from the stands.
Would you enjoy coming into work if all your workmates were ribbing you about the fact the whole city thinks you are gay?
I am seriously worried that players are going to want to start leaving the club or will not sign for us if we carry on like we have done this season.
I just think that from Sunday onwards we need try and be positive towards our players and get a bit of the old atmosphere back as nobody is enjoying the atmosphere at the moment. If only just so we don't give the s**m fans the satisfaction of hearing us boo our own team. You never know we might even give them a hiding and kick start a late season run. With Saf back and the new boys we have the potential to put on a real display.
Worthy and the coaches are the men to blame if sub standard players are out there, not the players themselves. I personally do think the players are trying but what i see is a team low on confidence and looking as if they don't know what they are supposed to be doing out there most of the time. Again who's fault is that?
Rant over!
