The 'working class', however you want to define that these days, does not provide as many votes as it used to.
Therefore elections are not won or lost by your message to the working class, but by your message to the middle class.
There is undeniably a need for the working class to have a voice, to be listened to. But until the voting system is changed, or the middle class starts to feel the same pain as the working class or starts to suffer downwards social mobility, tailoring your message to the working class doesn't win you elections.
A proper PR system would sort it, but the Lib Dems let themselves get f**ked over by the option on the referendum that was held on changing the system.
