What a complete mess this Brexit business is

and not just the latest event but the fact that basically we have allowed ourselves to be signed up to a series of treaties that make it virtually impossible for us to ever extricate ourselves from the EU even if that's what the people want (although I accept that there are many who don't). I really feel that over many, many years documents have been signed without really being subject to the scrutiny that they should have been (obviously to the advantage of those federalists who are quite happy that we are locked in) and now I fear the result is that leaving is just going to prove too difficult and will never happen.

Article 50 itself is a crock of sh*t in terms of drafting and the process it sets out. Could have been drafted by a work experience student. Its probably deliberate though.

The only way this will work now is if everyone (i.e. the EU) decides to be sensible and negotiate the exit terms before Article 50 is formally invoked. I really don't see how you can have a vote in parliament on the terms of our exit before starting negotiations with the EU as they will know precisely what our government can or cannot agree to and therefore it completely undermines any negotiating position. I don't see a PM taking that risk and I don't see that sort of sensible discussion happening though for so long as the likes of Junker and Shultz are involved which will only mean its going to stir up huge levels of bad feeling and probably anti European sentiment amongst many in the UK who will feel their wishes are being frustrated.
