Because of the negative PR and loss of sponsor.

Company accounts are freely available (two clicks on a 'first report') so you'd think someone within the club would conduct some very simple due diligence on a prospect sponsor....

Its not rocket science (actually a common process in most companies before openig accounts with customers/suppliers/sponsors) but somehow we even f**ked that up
