It's complicated, right? (Obviously not in DailyMailWorld, but in reality.)

Sure, it's hard to see why anyone would take offence at poppies. But if we wear poppies, then what happens when Russia get drawn against Ukraine, and they choose, as a provocation, to put on their shirts a tribute to 'Fallen Heroes' in the war against Ukraine? "But England can wear poppies to commemorate their fallen in past wars - it's just the same."

Likewise any other flashpoint around the world. FIFA - rightly in my view - want to keep politics out of sport. And the simplest way to do it is just to ask countries not to commemorate wars etc on their kits at games.

I understand the counterview, and why Simon Weston feels different in particular. But it isn't simple.
