but I think people still underestimated what Hughton was doing to take that squad to 11th and then to keep it (just about) bobbing above water the following season - despite a couple of marquee signings not working out.

Lambert's season in the Prem - based almost entirely on momentum and a group of players reaching a level which almost none of them would ever play at again - clouded judgement and inflated expectations way too much.
