thats because of natural evolution

the modern day dog has adapted to "learn" to mix up it's poopual direction to confuse it's predators. the instinct is sometimes so strong they circle the poop a couple of times and then scratch the ground in a pole oriented direction. they can't help themselves. it's a useful skill if you are lost in the wilderness to orientate your map to magnetic north or south. observe the s**tting dog.
