Your MIL needs to start looking after herself.
Step one: write to daughter saying very politely "I know that I get one third under the will and would really appreciate being kept informed. Has there been a grant of private yet? Just wondering if you yet have any idea what the estate is worth? Have there been any distributions yet? What do you think the time frame is?" That sort of thing. If she doesn't feel confident then she should get a solicitor who specialises in probate to draft something for her.
I think it's better to start with a letter from her because it's less hostile than a solicitor's letter as a first gambit. But if she doesn't get a satisfactory answer then she needs to lawyer up and fast. People get very bent up around wills. Is she Norwich based or elsewhere?
