Sigh. This is where people need to better informed

The FTSE 100 is higher because so many of the companies are international companies (eg mining companies) who make much of their revenues in foreign currency. Therefore purely in sterling terms those earnings are worth more, because pounds are worth less. For the average UK citizen who earns their wages in sterling, that doesn't compensate them for the fact that everything they buy that contains inputs from abroad now costs more.
