Yes absolutely

The problem is, the benchmark set by the government (and others) is not what the law says, it's some moral judgment of what the "right" amount to pay is.

So long as the avoidance is not contrived and artificial I'm ok with it. Choosing one option of how to do something over another because it comes with a lower tax bill is an acceptable thing to do in my book (so long as both options are sensible and not artificial / contrived).
