The show is written by people who know a story needs a beginning, a middle and an end. This season marks the start of the Third Act i.e. the end which brings it all together and takes it to a conclusion. Next season is probably the last (they might do a Breaking Bad and split it, so instead of one 10-episode season, make a 15-episode season released as an 8-parter and a 7-parter or something like that). The reason for that is that the actor contracts are reportedly seven-year things and in any renegotiation for any "season 8" of course the stars would want - a lot - more money.
