Anyone on here saying this season was just a result of big budgets etc.....we are 10 points or more behind Bournemouth and Watford and I felt we were as good or better than them. This season has been a disastrous underperformance.
Some of the players are too used to losing imo.
But I also think an lost his nerve. Once we started trying to not play wes away from home etc it was like admitting we weren't good enough to play our game.
Shutting up shop to nick a win like George Graham's arsenal is fine if you can defend but with bad song and pals you know we will leak at least one per game so we were basically setting up for 1-0 defeats.
The Liverpool game was catastrophic too. Not just for the lost points but for the feeling in both fans and players that we could concede at any point.
Under lambert we expected to win even if 1-0 down with 5 mins to play. The players expected it too. And it happened. This season we expect to lose. To some degree managing a side at the bottom is about breaking that cycle. You will lose some but you need to accept those loses and not let them affect the next game. The players need to be up for every match and never let their heads drop. I loathe big SAMs football but the guts and commitment the Sunderland team have shown lately embarrasses us.
Can you imagine us coming from behind to beat Chelsea?
