Have you come across the present perfect tense yet?

It's so depressing to have to teach it - but even more disheartening when you see how the government want writing assessed. There is a checklist of various statements that need to be ticked off as you spot them. It has to be a 'secure fit' as opposed to a 'best fit' so they all need to be included at least two or three times in a collection of writing or you can't 'pass'. No hyphens or semi colons? Then you can't be writing at the national standard however brilliant the writing is.
