Continuing the Andreau discussion from last night

All of those who say "we all know why he was signed" can you please answer me the following:

1) What benefit to us or them is there in buying a player from Hamilton rather simply paying compensation? Is there a tax benefit or something?

2) why would Hamilton agree/want to sell their best player and top scorer instead of simply taking the compensation?

3) why would (the ever so shrewd in the eyes of most) McNally agree to such a deal which instead of simply paying 1 million in compensation means we have to pay 1 million to Hamilton and then leaves us to stomach the wages of a player for the length of his contract which is likely to total between 500k and 1 million pounds minimum?

4) if it was Alex Neil simply wanting to say thanks to Hsmilton for his time there then it's a disgrace as its cost us nearly 2 million of club money and as such would amount to gross mismanagement. If he wanted to thank them personally he should not be doing it under the guise of club business.

All this makeweight stuff just does not seem plausible to me as can't see the benefit for anyone.
Think it is simply another excuse a lot of fans have made up/want to believe rather than put it down as another terrible signing by Neil.
