I'm beginning to get a picture of what caused the crush outside. The

funneling effect leading to the entrance would have made people at the back unaware of what was happening further down. The turnstiles couldn't cope, so to alleviate the situation they let everyone through, unaware of what was happening in the pens.

An almighty f**k-up from beginning to end - down to nobody in authority caring about the safety of football supporters, from the government down.

So you could say an accident inevitably waiting to happen. But one so riddled with criminal negligence that there is culpability attached to many, many people.

What is particularly hideous (obviously) is the corrupt actions of some of the police officers. I can only hope that the culture of ignorance & never admitting to blame, or to learning from mistakes, has since been eradicated.
