Why was Kane never given a proper run of games here?

I remember him having a promising debut against WHU, albeit missing a good chance, plus being subbed off at h/t against Luton, but not much else. Was he injured or was he genuinely not good to take playing time away from a declining Holt?

Seems incredible that he went from not being able to get a game for us, to being probably the second best striker in the league in basically 18 months. An amazing improvement.
