It is a very difficult theory to "prove".

Essentially, it's a restating of the teleological (I think!) argument that God exists. Which is bloogy hard to prove and also to disprove.

I can understand how people can believe in it. For example, "What use is a partly-developed eye?" is a bloody difficult question to answer.
