Remember Delia harping on about how the CCC was where the "real" football was? How the pre and post match "bonhomie" with other clubs was more enjoyable, ditto the football, the grounds, the fans?
I think the whole club sincerly sees itself as an well established CCC club, and wants to see itself as just that, permanently and long term. The expectations and demands of the Premiership are too much, they don't like what it brings them in terms of fans demands and hopes, and don't really desire it.
Worthington is probably more and more aware of that as time goes by, if he was half as ambitious as he says he is, he'd quit, but he knows that he'd struggle to get another job at this level if he did, let alone have any Prem club, even the likes of Sunderland, show any interest in him.
