I'm pretty sceptical that

trying hard and doing well in a cup actually harms league form. Perhaps the biggest clubs who are in Europe and may get to the latter stages of both cups need to rotate a lot more. I don't buy that 3 or 4 extra games has any real impact for a club like us. Especially because only the last couple of rounds would result in league games being moved to mid-week.
