Take the money and run

Like it or not, Hoops doesn't really fit the forward/striker brief that SAN is looking for. He doesn't work hard enough and he simply isn't the kind of player who suits the "one up top" system. He could player as a second striker, in the Wes role, but he's nowhere near as creative.

While I was up visiting the folks in Sheffield over Christmas, I popped along to Hillsborough with my dad on Boxing Day. Hoops started for Wednesday and actually had a decent game - he looked like he was playing for a move. They started with two up top, with Hoops off some big tall lump. That worked really well - he was running the channels, his first touch was excellent, and he was instrumental in many of Wednesday's best moves. He had a goal ruled out for offside and had a hand in one of their three goals (or possibly two). At that level, in the right team - that can play to his strengths - he would be an asset. For us in the Premier League, not so much. Wednesday's owner is desperate to get promoted at the earliest opportunity, and seems keen to splash the cash he's made from canned tuna in Thailand.
