Another Comp geek question

Put windows 2000 pro on my pc, and it recognises things in the usb like keyring hard drives and stuff

When I go to put the usb bt broadband thingy in, it doesn't want to know, not even the power light appears on the bt usb thing, never mind a signal

Do I need to install some drivers for this to happen? Or could this been BT's hub router thingy being difficult?
