Possibly the best the club has been involved in, in terms of departing players. It might sting right now because he was a hero last season and won our POTS (then again, you can't always trust fans when it comes to voting!), but in a few years I think we will all be amazed at the fee that the club gained for a limited player who turns 29 next April.
Yes, his goals played a big part last season in the championship, but beyond that he had little else to his game other than a great work ethic and tough tackling. Technically he was almost as limited as Andy Hughes, while his passing wasn't much better either.
Even with the goals, some players have freak seasons like that. The aforementioned Hughes in 2002/2003, Michael Brown in 2003/2004, even Andrew Crofts for us in 10/11. I'm not sure that Johnson will have another season like that in his career, let alone be able to translate that form from the championship to the premier league.
As much as the board failed in attempting to bring in new players yesterday, they deserve a big pat on the back for the ?6M Johnson sale imo.
