I think they had ran out of gas a bit by then

the Mexico and Costa Rica games took a lot out of them. The two times they came really close to scoring v Argentina were after the hour mark though so not sure on your theory there. My point in general was that they struggled to attack sides all tournament but benefitted when certain sides got desperate to score (Spain at 2-1), Chile (0-0 with 20mins to go) and the Australia game was just stupidly open.
