the total number of points gained is pretty much the same for all leagues with the same number of teams.

So if the bottom 8 got so few points presumably the top 12 got MORE points.

How on earth is that a measure of league strength?

If the bottom 8 teams of the Ryman League got more points than the bottom 8 in the Prem does that make the Ryman the stronger league?
