we should expect Italy to beat Costa Rica.

Then we would need to beat Costa Rica and simply presume Uruguay don't beat Italy by a greater margin.

After the disappointment of last night subsides, England will come in to the next game feeling ok about themselves and about the other teams in the group.

2004 is a good comparison imo.
