I'm not seeking the moral highground

And there's no such thing as a perfect political system, but I would still say that people are better represented here. Don't forget that governance in Belgium is increasingly devolved with the regions having a very high level of control over day-to-day life (even education), and these continue to function even when the federal government is in stalemate, as looks probable now. I guess the problems with the functionality of federal government could be seen as the price to be paid for better representation.
