Time to get real, I think

Last summer, we spent, by our standards, an absolute ton of money on players supposed to take us to another level. They did; just not in the direction intended.

And yes, we were debt free at the time - but are we now? I can't believe we are or will be. They hung on and hung on and hung on with Hughton; Delia says "we thought about sacking him in January, but there was no-one available". No-one available - to manage a club not (at the time) even in the relegation zone in the most high profile league on planet Earth?!

More like: "There was no-one available on what we were offering". Hence us ultimately just turning to the youth team coach; then unbelievably giving him the permanent job after 0 wins and 2 goals in 5 games. After being rejected by our long time first choice, who hardly has his pick of Premier League clubs to choose from; and after not appointing someone who's just left the cushtiest job imaginable and walked away from Champions League football.

If this was any other club appointing its youth team coach in such circumstances, we'd all be calling it for what it must be. Cost-cutting. Severe cost-cutting. We gambled our PL future last summer (what are RVW and Fer's wages, I wonder?); the gamble failed; and we've gone straight back to the past. Never mind the football results next season; our financial results will make VERY interesting reading.
