Hello and Goodbye

Dear Wrathers
Been a few months since I've been on here, but I wanted to finally depart with a big thank you for the many posters that lightened my day and made it fun being associated with the club and its supporters. Irony and insight from the intellectual wing were much appreciated, along with a willingness to engage with social issues amongst the football banter. I even appreciated the supporters from other clubs and the welcome extended to those bothering to make sensible posts - especially the stray Chelsea supporter.

Norwich is really my second club, adopted after living here and when kids appeared - couldn't have them being plastic supporters of a so called 'big name' club. I'd grown up with a season ticket for my local club - just survived their first season back in the league after an absence of a few years, and that tie to your local team is far more important than the league they play in. With one of my sons we've had a season ticket for more than ten years, but time marches on and back at Christmas we'd decided we'd had enough. Ironically at that time I had no worry that relegation would occur and it was the Premier League that killed it for us - we'd found the money, rampant commercialism and the cautious style of avoiding relegation at all costs had taken the fun and excitement out of the game. Well that worked, didn't it!

I guess we were all rather spoilt by the Lambert years. Fantasy football in real life. You don't get too many runs like his tenure in your lifetime, and I guess everything after became an anti-climax. I know that by definition, many of you on here are dyed in the wool City supporters and will stick by the club through thick and thin - will go on to embrace and even enjoy the Championship, so, as I take my leave, I salute you. The club goes on, doubtless it will rise and fall (and rise) again. Managers and players will come and go with various protestations of loyalty and commitment - but a bit like me, they are transient. The beating heart of the club will remain the loyal supporters. Onwards and upwards. OTBC.
