A toxic mix

Hughton created a squad with no pace, non-scoring strikers, and defenders prone to catastrophic blunders. To still be in with a chance with one game left is indicative of how poor the league is this season.
At Hull in August I ranted and raved about the negative tactics and was convinced that we would end up rock bottom ( and if Arsenal are up for it we just might).
But to some extent my ranting was born of ignorance, what Hughton already knew and we didn't, was how truly s**t the strikers he had signed were. There was virtually no point "going for it".
What I don't understand is why the striking and pace issues weren't addressed in January. Why sign a lumbering unfit past-it wing back?
