The six million dollar man, loved this as a kid plus all the space race stuff.

The crash sequence is real and was at Edwards Air Force Base in California. (Bruce Peterson survived FWIW)
Later in life I actually completed some work for NASA and visited Edwards, which was an amazing once in a life time experience.
