See eg. Hughton remaining in-post for so long; see eg. buying RVW early on the cheap instead of waiting 'til the summer to see what other options were around (Bony...); see eg. the emphasis on paying down every penny of external debt instead of using some of it to boost wage structure to atract better players.
So if Malky is in the running against anyone else, I think they'll take the 'safe' and 'known' option rather than a risky foreigner.
(We are assuming that Malky will want to come here - what's to say he wont wait for, say, a West Brom...)
