I think he'd see it as a step down.

He's on the verge of taking a club he's been at for the best part of twenty years, who he saved from dropping out of the football league altogether in 2009 despite a 17 point deduction, to the Premiership. That would be a massive achievement - but they have momentum and we're on the slide, with no guarantee of even a top ten finish next season.
